WINTER PARK, Fla. --

The Winter Park Police Department plans to lay off some of its four-legged friends.

Letting go of one of the three police dogs would save the department nearly $25,000 a year. That is how much it costs for food, training, veterinary care, and gas to keep the dogs cool in the car.

The dogs will be sold or given to another police agency.
