MEXICO CITY
--
Mexico City's police chief has quit following a botched night club raid in which 12 people died.
Mayor Marcelo Ebrard says he has accepted the resignation of Police Chief Joel Ortega.
The ouster follows a city Human Rights Commission report blasting the way police officials handled the June 20 raid on the News Divine nightclub in northeastern Mexico.
Officers looking for underage drinkers blocked the club's lone working exit, creating a deadly stampede in which nine patrons and three police were asphyxiated or crushed to death.
Ebrard says city prosecutor Rodolfo Felix Cardenas has also submitted his resignation but the mayor has not said if he will accept it.
