NEW ORLEANS
--
A Jefferson Parish SWAT team member was shot in the leg during a training exercise Wednesday.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said that SWAT team members were conducting a training exercise at the Plaquemines Parish Sheriffs Office firing range when one of the officers was hit.
Officer David Roddy, a 16-year veteran of the JPSO, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the exercise, according to the sheriffs office.
Roddy, along with several other SWAT officers, were firing onto the range from inside of an armored personnel carrier when he was hit.
Emergency medical personnel took Roddy to University Hospital, where he was treated for an injury believed to be non-life-threatening.
